WHAT MAKES A GOOD HEADSHOT?

LAST SATURDAY NIKKY HUYNH VISITED US AT CAMP IVRT AND TOOK HEADSHOTS OF THE CAMPERS!

Last weekend at Camp IVRT’s in person session, campers were dressed in their favorite clothes, and had their hair brushes with them, in preparation for their headshots to be taken. For many of them, this was the first time they will have a headshot. Naturally, the campers had lots of questions about what a headshot was used for and how it would be useful for them to have. We interviewed photographer Nikky Huynh to get them and all of you actors the answers to the important questions you should be thinking about before scheduling your next headshot! Nikky is a talented photographer who specializes in graduation portraits, family photography, and capturing intimate events. Check out her portfolio here, and if you need a photographer for a future event, keep her in mind!

Why is it important to have a recent headshot?

It makes you memorable when auditioning for a part. When there are dozens of other pictures, you want yours to stand out and leave a lasting impression. It can also show off your personality and professionalism as well.

What makes for a good headshot?

A good headshot should be done by a skilled photographer with proper lighting.

How do you dress for a headshot?

Wear business casual clothing or simple colored clothing. You want the attention to go to your natural facial features, not your outfit.

Where do you want to be photographed?

Your background shouldn’t be too distracting where it takes the attention from you. In front of a plain colored backdrop or plain wall is ideal.

How should someone do their makeup and hair the day of the photo?

Keep your makeup and hair natural. You want it to enhance your natural features, not change it. If you have blue eyes, don’t wear brown colored contact lenses. You want people to know you for who you are.

Big thanks to Nikky for answering our questions and taking headshots of the campers!
