IVRT's History

The Inland Valley Repertory Theatre (IVRT) was founded and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1990 and produced 29 shows in our first 7-8 years. After a hiatus from 1998 to 2007, some of the original company members sent out a letter of intent to revive IVRT, generating $26,000 in seed money to produce two shows in 2007. Seeking a permanent home, we turned to the Candlelight Pavilion in the City of Claremont. Initially the logistics were problematic: How could IVRT use Candlelight's stage when both entities' seasons were already planned? Undaunted, we came up with a unique niche programming and marketing idea, "Wednesdays Just Got Dramatic!" The concept was that IVRT would produce multi-week runs of shows on Wednesday nights, when the Candlelight--and most theaters--were otherwise dark. IVRT would have these nights all to itself. (We added Tuesday night shows in 2011.) We have continued to produce three- and four-show seasons at the Candlelight, always including at least one musical, ever since. A member of the Los Angeles Stage Alliance, IVRT is now established as one of the leading theater companies in eastern LA County. The past two years have seen us take significant further steps toward greater organizational consolidation and community involvement. Our Board of Trustees is committed to developing a long-range strategic plan for the company, including the definition of our "brand" image among theater artists, audiences and the greater community. In the community IVRT teamed up with local business to support projects like the building of Claremont's new Shelton Park Outdoor Stage performance facility, and with other local nonprofits for education and outreach programs such as Camp IVRT and the workshops at the David & Margaret Youth and Family Services Center.

-- Inland Valley Repertory Theatre (IVRT) is founded by Frank and Donna Marie Minano as a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation with the goal of providing high quality professional theatrical productions in the Inland Valley communities. IVRT is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees.

-1993 -- IVRT performs in rented facilities in Alta Loma, Upland and Claremont.

-1998 -- IVRT moves to Seeley G. Mudd Theater on the campus of the Claremont School of Theology, begins to build audience base.

-- IVRT enters a hiatus period to reorganize and build collaborative relationships. Three productions are co-produced with a local church choir (1998 Song of Mark, 1999 Song of Mark, 2000 Godspell).

-- IVRT board announces a re-opening in September at the University of La Verne. IVRT has as its core a group of actors who make up the acting “resident company.” Additional actors are auditioned and hired for the season of plays and musicals.

-- IVRT forms alliance with Candlelight Pavilion and opens “Wednesdays Just Got Dramatic” season of plays and musicals onstage at the CP. IVRT begins outreach to local schools, hosting the “Broadway Workshop” for 300 students from Ontario-Montclair school district and raising $1,500 for Claremont High School.

-- IVRT joins the LA Stage Alliance. MUSICAL THEATER CAMP IVRT is launched, with 15 students performing in A Christmas Carol at the Covina Center for the Performing Arts.

-- IVRT partners with the Claremont Community School of Music to present MUSICAL THEATER CAMP IVRT as a summer workshop for youth. IVRT’s CABARET becomes first show to be LA Stage Alliance/Ovation eligible. IVRT hires Director of Development.

-- IVRT receives recognition and funding from the LA County Board of Supervisors through the LA County Arts Commission’s Organizational Grants Program. IVRT’s Auxiliary Guild is formed.

-- IVRT reworks its box office and front-of-house operations from vendor (Candlelight Pavilion) to in-house. IVRT's Readers Theatre series begins at Eddie's Pizzeria and Eatery in Claremont.

- IVRT celebrates the 25th anniversary of its founding as a nonprofit theatre arts organization. IVRT once again receives recognition and funding from the LA County Board of Supervisors through the LA County Arts Commission. IVRT also receives funding from the Claremont Educational Foundation for a Readers Theatre project in Claremont schools.

-- IVRT hires part time Executive Director. IVRT receives funding for a full-time summer intern.

- IVRT receives funding from the California Arts Council to begin an Outreach program to the David & Margaret Youth and Family Services center.
